Welcome to the next developer's diary where I'll be talking about how far into making the game am I.
Plotwise? The afterday of Fox battle is fully done. Full two days after that are almost completely done (save some minor, flavour dialogue that I need to add). Rest of the events are in a mixed state.
Though, the days after the events of the demo are more tightly packed - for example, day four alone has more quests in it than the whole demo together.
Most of the things mentioned in the previous Developer's Diaries were completely implemented, save for two things. Spidershade's murder quest is not anywhere near finished, and the romance-related stuff is pretty much just small bits of dialogue written. While they are not forgotten, I put them as a low priority and they are going to be probably the last parts that I'm going to work on.
Thing is, most of these features are not part of the early game. For example, most characters are going to join in much later. Mentioned minigames don't appear until second act of the game, etc.
So far I'd estimate that about 20-25% of the whole game that I've planned is complete. If that's much or little is a discussable thing. What's the goal for the nearest time?
I want to finish the first third (from beginning to end) of the game by the end of October - that would be the whole first act. I aim for 3-5 hours of gameplay here. With putting in a lot of work, I think I can pull that through. After that part is finished, I'm going to send it to a group of trusted friends for evaluation, and make any modifications and fixes necessary.
After that, I'm going to make a closed beta for the forum users and incorporate their suggestions and fix the bugs they report.
Testing and fixing bugs is probably going to take a lot of work. And there will probably many great suggestions mentioned by testers that should be implemented in. It all takes time.
With all that done, I'll make another public release. I can't say I'm exactly satisfying with releasing the game in parts, but it seems like the only alternative to waiting a year or two more for the finished thing.
So yes, there's still a lot to be done. But I'm willing to finish what I've started and make the best game I can out of it.
TLDR:
(Tentatively)
Completing the first one third of the game by the end of October.
Private tests throughout November.
Closed beta throughout December.
Public release of the first act of the game at the end of the year.
