Okay, so I've recently stumbled upon a little fact in US history that may or may not have been an inspiration for part of this game, or it could be extreme coincidence. But first, let me provide some context before I get into my theory.
The setting is July of 1964 in the Gulf of Tonkin, which is off the coast of Northern Vietnam. The United States and Southern Vietnam had naval posts stationed along the coast of Nothern Vietnam. On August 2nd, 1964, the Nothern Vietnamese sent out a counter attack, resulting in the sinking of one US destroyer. President of the United States, Lyndon B Johnson, sent a warning to the Nothern Vietnamese, which was disregarded 2 days later when another US destroyer was sunk (though there was no proof of Vietnamese work, they still got credited with the sinking). Tensions continued to rise until February of 1965; LBJ was left with the decision of increasing involvement in Vietnam. This debate was left to Congress, which were divided into two groups: the hawks, whom wanted increase military involvement to battle communism, and the doves, who believed that escalating the war would not guarantee victory.
So with this miniature history essay written, I find that it the US Congress during this time period was much like ThunderClan while dealing with the murder of Spidershade in RTI, right down to the name of the divided groups. The Hawks are pushing to end the conflict with ShadowClan with battling, while the Doves are looking for an alternate cause to end the conflict without more war, which in RTI's case, the Doves play detectives and try to solve the murder. In both the United States and ThunderClan, the Hawks and the Doves just want to end the overall conflict: the war in Vietnam and Spidershade's murder accusations.
I'm probably super duper overthinking it, but I mean hey, it's always fun to make connections, right? Let me know what you guys think
